Gal Costa’s son calls for exhumation of the singer’s body for investigation into death

Gabriel Costa went to court to find out details about the legacy left by the artist

Gabriel Costa, Gal Costa’s son, sued the court to have the singer’s body exhumed. The objective of the procedure is to identify, via an autopsy, the cause of death of the artist, who passed away in 2022, at the age of 77. The request was presented in court last Wednesday (13). Officially, the death certificate states that Gal suffered an acute myocardial infarction.

In the petition requested by Gabriel there is also a request for the artist’s remains to be transferred from São Paulo to Rio. Gal’s heir wants the singer to be buried next to her mother, in the São João Batista Cemetery, in the South Zone from the city, as it was Gal’s wish. The information is from the Extra website.

Who are Gal Costa’s heirs?

Gal was buried in São Paulo at the request of Wilma Petrillo, who claims to be the artist’s widow. At the time of the singer’s death, Gabriel was a minor and could not interfere in decisions regarding his mother. Today, at 18 years old, he is questioning in court not only the cause of Gal’s death, but also the rights to the inheritance left by his mother.

Gabriel’s defense disputes that Wilma had a relationship with the singer for years, being just the boy’s manager and godmother.

“Gal’s last wish was to be buried in Rio, in the tomb she bought to rest next to her mother, who was the great love of her life. When she died, Gabriel was a minor and couldn’t do anything. Everyone questioned Wilma’s decision to bury her in São Paulo, but she didn’t listen to anyone and segregated her body in a private cemetery, owned by her friends, which fans cannot visit. There, Gal is a stranger in the nest,” said Gabriel’s lawyer, Luci Vieira Nunes, to GLOBO. Justice cannot deny Gal’s last wish, which was to stay next to her mother, in the cemetery where the great names of Brazilian culture are located.
