The court sentenced the actor, who is 79 years old, to eight months of suspended sentence — when prison can be avoided if the convicted person meets pre-established requirements. Among the measures defined by the Court is the obligation to attend 40 hours of classes on sexual violence. The verdict was announced at the Seongnam District Court, a city about 20 kilometers from Seoul — the capital of South Korea. Winner of the 2022 Golden Globe in the category of Best Supporting Actor on TV, Oh Yeong-su was accused in 2022 after the case is reopened. He was never arrested. The victim reportedly filed the complaint in December 2021, but the case was closed in April 2022 without a formal accusation against the actor. The case was reopened by the Suwon Public Prosecutor’s Office. Throughout the process, Oh Yeong-su denied the allegations. Still in 2021, when commenting on the accusations, the actor claimed that he had “held the woman’s hands to show the way around a lake”. After the accusations, Oh Yeong-su still apologized to the woman, but emphasized that this does not “mean I admit the accusations”.
