from STF minister to occasional politician; listen to podcast

The last few days have not been easy for Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The reason is a speech by the magistrate who reignited an old controversy and now gains new impetus.
During an event of the National Union of Students (UNE), he said “we defeated Bolsonarism”. A political statement, no doubt.
Since then, many have criticized the minister, which even led the STF to try to justify the episode by relating Luís Roberto Barroso’s words to the popular vote. Even so, some deputies have already announced that they want the impeachment of the magistrate, and the topic was also discussed in the Senate.
Faced with the repercussions, Barroso went public and recanted, but if an impeachment request is even filed, it will be the third against him alone. The other two ended up archived, although the magistrate is not the first nor the last member of the highest court in the country to criticize parties and politicians.
To address the subject in this episode of 15 Minutes, the Podcast by Gazeta do Povothe guest is the journalist Renan Ramalho, from the República team.
