Free Trade Area of Macapá and Santana will enter the Federal Constitution – News of Brazil

The new Tax Reform, approved last Thursday, 6th, in the Federal Chamber, is a key turning point for Amapá. With the articulation of deputies Josenildo Abrantes (PDT) and Acácio Favacho (MDB) in PEC 45, the Free Trade Area of Macapá and Santana was preserved and institutionalized, being included in the Federal Constitution of Brazil.
PEC 45 is authored by Deputy Baleia Rossi (MDB-RJ) and reported by Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), and deals with the simplification of taxes on consumption, provides for funds to finance ICMS credits until 2032 and for development regional, in addition to the unification of the legislation of the new taxes and the linking of the free trade areas to the same basis and legal system of the Free Trade Zone of Manaus.
“With our articulation, it was possible to constitutionalize the free trade areas and place them in the same legal system as the Manaus Free Trade Zone. Which gives the LACs more strength and competitive power”declared Josenildo, noting that after approval by the Senate and the sanction or enactment of the PEC, the states will no longer need to fight for the renewal of benefits or live with the threat of extinction of their free trade areas.
The Free Trade Area of Macapá and Santana was created in 1991, and is one of the main drivers of the economy of Amapa, favorable for those who invest in local commerce and for those who live in Amapá, it is responsible for more than 60 thousand jobs in Macapá and Santana .
In addition to Macapá and Santana, the ALCs of Boa Vista and Bonfim (RR), Guajará-Mirim (RO), Brasiléia, Epitaciolândia and Cruzeiro do Sul (AC) and Tabatinga (AM) were also preserved.
