Fortaleza will ask CBF not to play after bus attack

The president of Fortaleza, Alex Santiago, treats the attack on the club bus as terrorism and attempted murder. The director also said that he will formalize the request to the CBF so that the team only returns to play after the injured athletes recover.

“We are gathering all the necessary documentation, such as reports of medical care in Recife, medical certificates, in addition to the Police Report that has already been registered. We will forward it to the CBF and the Ceará Federation so that we can formulate the requests. Everything will be gathered and sent to the responsible entities”, said Alex Santiago, to UOL.

Alex Santiago believes that the act can be classified as both attempted murder and terrorism. He is also a criminal lawyer.

Fortaleza filed a police report, and the Civil Police of Pernambuco have already opened a police investigation.

The players will be interviewed by the police this Friday (23) virtually, according to the club president.

The bus attack

Six Fortaleza players were injured after the delegation bus was attacked by Sport fans. The episode happened after the 1-1 draw, last Wednesday, in the Copa do Nordeste.

Fans threw bombs and stones at the exit of Arena Pernambuco. The teams faced each other in the fourth round of the group stage of the competition.

Six players were hit and the delegation was taken to the nearest hospital. Goalkeeper João Ricardo, left-back Gonzalo Escobar, right-back Dudu, defenders Titi and Brítez and midfielder Lucas Sasha were injured.
