The former president of Internacional Vitorio Píffero and the club’s former finance deputy Pedro Afatato were sentenced to prison for irregularities at the club between 2015 and 2016.

Píffero and Afatato were judged by the 2nd State Court for the Process and Judgment of the Crimes of Criminal Organization and Money Laundering.

Píffero’s sentence is 10 years and six months in prison in a closed regime for the crimes of embezzlement and criminal organization.

Afatato was sentenced to 19 years and eight months in semi-open prison for the crimes of embezzlement, criminal organization and money laundering.

Both were still punished with a fine. The UOL report had access to the sentence handed down on Monday (4). The duo can appeal the decision freely.

In addition to them, three other people were sentenced in the same sentence. Everyone will have to reimburse the club with the amounts obtained irregularly during the period. According to the MP-RS, the amount diverted exceeds R$13 million.

The decision stems from the Public Ministry’s “Operation Rebote”, which investigates deviations from Inter’s coffers mainly during works carried out in the Beira-Rio Complex.

In contact with the UOL report, Pedro Afatato’s defense informed that “he will appeal, as the sentence is excessive both in terms of sentence and conviction. The other manifestations will take place in the case files.”

Vitorio Píffero’s defense, carried out by lawyer Nei Breitman, reported that he will analyze the sentence and will certainly appeal. To do so, it will evaluate the terms of the decision.
