For the State, CBF strikes a new blow at clubs

There is an old discussion about the negative influence that the State have on the Brazilian football calendar. By inflating it, it only serves the interest of the federations, whose voting power only increases each year.

Right now, the Brazilian Football Confederation arbitrarily decided on the new criterion as transit to play the Copa do Brasil: instead of the qualification criterion adopting the history written for decades (ranking), it will adopt the classification of the State.

By that criterion, coritiba and athletic, that constitute the absolute identity of football in Paraná, are equal to Aruko, Azuriz and São Joseense. It’s not just any decision. The Copa do Brasil is a tournament that distributes extraordinary values from the opening round. Its finalists reach R$ 50 million in prizes.

Here, it is the hypothesis in which the technical equality of rights becomes unequal and unjust. Nothing prevents Athletico and Coritiba from qualifying for the Libertadores or Sudamericana and the element of the improbable, so common in football, one day entering the State and excluding one or the other, or both, from the Copa do Brasil.

That is to say: history is torn apart, tradition is ignored and past technical merit is disregarded in order to protect the interests of the central system, through the vote of the federations.

And the clubs fighting each other for power to form the League, accept the change without any reaction. The system of the CBF and the federations became so strong that it provoked the silence of the only one that shouted against it, Clube Athletico Paranaense.
