Games for Israel’s main teams, under-21s, under-17s and the local Football Championship were postponed after the Hamas attacks in Israel last Saturday (7). There is no forecast for the resumption of games in the country.
Israeli teams have played in UEFA competitions, the European league, since 1991 for religious and political reasons. In a statement, the Union said it “will continue to closely monitor the situation and will maintain contact with all teams involved before making decisions on new dates and potential changes to other future games”.
Israel’s senior team was scheduled to face Switzerland on October 12th at the Bloomfield stadium in Tel Aviv for the Euro 2024 qualifiers in Germany. The game is valid for the 7th round. There is no prediction of a new date. Switzerland is the leader of Group I, with 14 points, followed by Romania with 12 points and Israel, in third, with 11.
UEFA explained that it will wait a few more days to postpone or not the game against Kosovo, also in the Euro Cup qualifiers and in the 8th round, which would take place on October 15th. The match is scheduled to take place at the Prishtina City stadium in Kosovo.
Games for the 2025 Under-21 and 2024 Under-17 European Championships have also been postponed. For the Under-21s, Israel has games scheduled against the Estonian and German teams. In U17, the Israeli team would participate in a small tournament against Belgium, Gibraltar and Wales.
“I thank UEFA President Alex Sprin and the organization’s senior leaders for responding to my request, taking into account the combat situation in Israel and the heavy toll of the victims,” Shino Zoertz, president of the Israeli Football Association.
