Sócrates will name the street on the outskirts of Paris – 10/09/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

Former player Sócrates will be honored with a street named after him in the French commune of Saint-Ouen, located about ten kilometers from the city of Paris.

The initiative was announced by the local mayor, Karim Bouamrane, in a meeting with the president of Embratur (Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion), Marcelo Freixo, who went to France to fulfill an agenda for the Brazilian agency. Former player Raí, brother of the Corinthians idol, was also present.

The new patio will be located in the Olympic Village for the 2024 games, where the Brazilian delegation will be hosted. The tribute to Sócrates will be maintained after the sporting event.

“We are very honored,” said the local mayor, Karim Bouamrane, in a statement recorded by Embratur. “We have a partnership in politics, economics, ecology and sporting culture. This is a family relationship, Brazil and Saint-Ouen are the same family. Viva [o presidente] Lula,” he added.

The act in honor of the former player is scheduled for March 30, 2024. Upon receiving the news, Raí said that the street named after his brother symbolizes “a new Brazil”, for everything that Sócrates represents and for “Brazil what we want for the world.”

During the meeting, Bouamrane and Freixo also talked about the future of the left in the world and the need for more ecological action by parties aligned with the progressive agenda. “This is a left-wing identity path that needs to be strengthened,” stated Freixo.

An exponent of the French left and coming from a Moroccan family, the mayor of Saint-Ouen personally arranged for the Brazilian delegation to be hosted in his commune during the 2024 Olympics.

The lawyer and president of IBCCrim (Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences), Renato Stanziola Vieira, received guests for the launch of his first book of short stories, “Canto Escuro” (publisher Patuá). The event was held at the Patuscada bookstore, in the capital of São Paulo, last week. Maria Leonor Leite Vieira, professor of tax law at PUC (Pontifical Catholic University) in São Paulo, was there. Lawyer Andre Kehdi, Vieira’s partner, also attended.
