Fluminense will try to cancel Marcelo’s expulsion in Libertadores

Fluminense seeks to reverse the expulsion of lateral Marcelo against Argentinos Juniors, from Argentina, for the Copa Libertadores. The player received a red card when the opponent suffered a serious injury to his left leg and left the first leg of the round of 16 of the continental competition.

According to competition regulations, the team from Rio has until 9 pm this Thursday to file a request with Conmebol. From this, the entity will analyze and give a position on the case. Despite seeking an annulment of the suspension, Fluminense understands that the success of the request will be difficult due to the way in which the card happened. The return match for the round of 16 takes place next Tuesday, at 7 pm, at Maracanã.

In the bid, Marcelo tried to dribble in Sánchez and ended up stepping on the defender’s leg. The Brazilian player himself asked his rival for assistance immediately. In the press conference after the match, Fernando Diniz did not understand the reason for the red card and was revolted.
