The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, said that the branches of Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil will receive requests for renegotiation of debts from Fies (Student Financing Fund) starting this Tuesday (7).

The government’s estimate is that the measure could benefit up to 1.2 million students.

Camilo participated in a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at Palácio do Planalto. Also present were the presidents of the FNDE (National Education Development Fund), Fernanda Pacobahyba, and the new president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Carlos Vieira.

“The president’s concern is that we carry out these renegotiations as quickly as possible, so from tomorrow Caixa and Banco do Brasil branches will be able to receive these Fies customers”, stated Camilo.

On Wednesday (1st), Lula sanctioned the law that proposes a new renegotiation of student debts at Fies.

Regarding Enem, whose first test was administered this Sunday (5), Camilo said that the arrests were “one-off occurrences”.

Asked about the publication of images of the exam on social media shortly after the start of the test, the minister stated that “in no way” will the exam be cancelled. He said that the Federal Police carried out two investigations, one in Pernambuco and another in the Federal District, regarding the release of the images.

FEDERAL ECONOMIC CASE

The new president of Caixa said he will officially take office on Wednesday (8), in a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto.

Carlos Vieira avoided commenting on the issue of nominations for the bank’s vice-presidencies, which has been the target of greed for the center. He was nominated for the position by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).

Vieira stated that the nominations are part of a “dynamic process, like life”. And he added that President Lula asked that the nominations be in the sense that “good governance and good professionals prevail.”
