Agro bench demands MEC’s position on criticism of the sector in Enem

The Agricultural Parliamentary Front (FPA) demanded, this Monday (6), an urgent position from the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on three Enem 2023 issues, one being of them that associated agribusiness with violence in the countryside and the advance of deforestation.

One of the issues criticized by the agribusiness bench brings an article published in 2021, in the magazine Elisée, from the State University of Goiás (UEG), in which the authors question the “logic of agribusiness”.

“In the cerrado, local knowledge is increasingly being subordinated to the logic of agribusiness. On the one hand, capital imposes biotechnological knowledge, as a mechanism for universalizing agricultural practices and new technologies, and on the other, the capitalist model subordinates men and women to the logic of the market. Thus, water, seeds, minerals, land (common goods) become private property. Furthermore, there are other negative factors, such as heavy mechanization, the ‘plaguetization’ of human and non-human beings, symbolic violence, overexploitation, rains of poison and violence against the person”, says the question posed for analysis .

According to the bench, the issue is of an “ideological nature and without scientific or academic criteria”, and therefore should be annulled. “ENEM is a knowledge assessment exam. The questions are poorly formulated, solely ideological and allows the student to mark any answer, depending on their point of view. Cancellation now!”, says the FPA.

In a note released to the press, the bench highlighted five critical points of the issue, and among them, it cited “scientific denialism against a sector that, in addition to bringing food security to Brazil and the world, is a mass production of lies.” “It is unbelievable that the federal government uses disinformation in tests administered to almost 4 million Brazilian students competing for a place at universities in Brazil”, criticizes the bench.

In addition to canceling questions 89, 70 and 71 of the test, the bench presented a request to summon the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, to attend hearings in the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate. He also asked the ministry for information about the Enem organizing committee and bibliographical references used to prepare the exam.

“This is the only country in the world where its own federal government propagates disinformation about the main economic activity and production of wealth, income and jobs. At the service of Brazilians? Linking crimes to legal activity is information?”, asks the bench .

The Ministry of Education has not yet taken a position on the criticisms presented by the FPA.

Summon requests

Federal deputy Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP) also filed, this Monday, two requests to summon minister Camilo Santana to provide information on questions with an ideological bias in Enem. The parliamentarian cites issues that attacked capitalism and agribusiness.

“We see Enem returning to what it once was in the past, a tool for ideological indoctrination and instead of worrying about evaluating the candidate’s technical knowledge, it is concerned with spreading leftist ideology”, stated Bilynskyj.
