Fies 2024: Find out how to try for up to 100% financing – 03/12/2024 – Education

Students who intend to pursue degrees in private institutions in the first semester of 2024 can register with Fies (Student Financing Fund) until Friday (15).

According to the notice released by the MEC (Ministry of Education and Culture), there are 112,168 places available for the student financing program at private universities. Registration is free and must be done exclusively online, on the Single Access Portal to Higher Education.

The result of the pre-selection in the single call will be announced on the 21st. This group must complete its registration from the 22nd to the 26th of the same month.

The main novelty of this year’s Fies is that 50% of the vacancies are allocated to Fies Social, which will benefit the low-income population. Students must be registered with CadÚnico, with a per capita family income of up to half the minimum wage (R$706). For these students, financing of up to 100% of educational fees will be permitted.

Another change brought about by the notice is in relation to the choice of courses by candidates. The student can choose up to three course options, which can be from different groups of knowledge areas. “Previously, it was required that the chosen courses belong to the same group of areas, which prevented registration from being made for a particular course in different institutions and/or locations, for example”, explains the notice.

To define the groupings of courses, the MEC carried out a review of the areas considered priorities by Fies and included courses with greater employability and higher average salaries, in addition to teaching and teaching courses, aimed at working in basic education.

According to the regulations, all students with active enrollment and regularly studying the same course, shift and location at the educational institution participating in Fies can enroll in the program. In addition, students in the broad competition must meet the other requirements of the program, such as having a gross monthly family income per capita of up to three minimum wages (R$3,960).

Both in Fies Social and in the broad competition, places are reserved for self-declared black, brown, indigenous and quilombola students and people with disabilities, according to the proportion in the population of the federation unit where the institution is located, according to the 2022 Census of IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

Applicants will be selected according to the classification of their grades in the Enem (National High School Exam). Editions from 2010 onwards will be considered. The minimum grade required is 450 points on the average of the five exam tests, as well as a grade greater than or equal to 400 in the essay.

WHAT ARE THE FIES CLASSIFICATION CRITERIA?

• With the establishment of Fies Social, from this year onwards 50% of vacancies will be allocated to students enrolled in CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government), with a per capita family income of up to half the minimum wage (R$ 706);
• In the broad competition, partial scholarship holders (50%) from Prouni (University for All Program) are in first place on the priority list of the classification criteria for the remaining Fies vacancies, as long as they do not have a degree and have not been Fies beneficiaries;
• In second place are students who do not have an undergraduate degree and have never benefited from Fies;
• Third are those who do not have an undergraduate degree, but who have already benefited from Fies at another time, having paid off the financing;
• In fourth place are students with an undergraduate degree, but who have never had a contract with Fies;
• Lastly, there are students with an undergraduate degree and Fies beneficiaries who managed to pay off the financing for their course.
