Tennis players need two more wins to reach the main draw

This Monday, Thiago Wild and Felipe Meligeni Alves, numbers 2 and 3 in the country, respectively, won the games in the first round, making a good start for Brazil in qualifying for the Wimbledon Tournament, the third Grand Slam of the season, and they return to court on Wednesday.

For Meligeni, the result carries even greater weight as it was the first time he managed to win on the circuit playing on grass. And against a former doubles champion of the tournament, who was already in the Top 30. The Brazilian scored 2-0 against the experienced Canadian Vasek Pospisil – he lifted the 2014 trophy alongside Jack Sock -, partials of 6/2 and 7 /6 (7/2).

Third best tennis player in the country in the ATP ranking (appears in 134th place), Meligeni now faces Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas, who won the battle against Belarusian Egor Gerasimov by 6/4, 6/7 (8/10) and 7/6 (10/2).

Thiago Wild, the 131st in the ranking, is trying to play his second Grand Slam in a row after going through the qualifiers at Roland Garros and reaching the third round – he lost to Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka. For the unprecedented spot in the main draw at Wimbledon, he started well, with a double 6/4 against the Dutchman Jelle Sels.

The tennis players need two more victories to reach the main draw, which already has Thiago Monteiro guaranteed. For the female, Bia Haddad is confirmed and Laura Pigossi and Carol Meligeni will play this Tuesday for the qualifier.
