In the Action Plan for 2024 released by the Federal Social Service Council (CFESS), the entity foresees spending more than R$28,000 on activities to “engage in the fight for the decriminalization and legalization of abortion”. The Plan was published by the Council on Monday (5) on its official website.

The Federal Social Service Council is a federal public authority whose role is to “guide, discipline, standardize, monitor and defend the professional practice of social workers in Brazil, in conjunction with the Regional Social Service Councils (CRESS)”.

Along with the promotion of abortion, the entity foresees spending on projects for “immersion in identity, feminism and sexuality” and activities to “defense anti-asylum, state, public, free and secular mental health policy”.

The Council also foresees a further series of activities and projects covered in five areas of work. In total, the entity says it has a budget of more than R$18.1 million in 2024.

“May this CFESS 2024 Target Plan be an instrument for strengthening our entity, translating goals, indicators, activities and projects that reaffirm the commitment to engagement in anti-capitalist, anti-racist, anti-lgbtqia+phobic, anti-ableism struggles and feminist. May our voices echo the life-freedom project, which strengthens the democratic and responsible experience of public management and which achieves important results for the professional work of social workers and for social policies in Brazilian society”, says an excerpt from the document.

A People’s Gazette contacted the Council and is awaiting a response. The report asked what exactly the activities of decriminalization and legalization of abortion consist of. The newspaper remains open for any manifestations from the entity.
