As a result of the deputy’s request Professor Goreth, approved in plenary, the Federal Chamber will hold, on the 28th, a formal session with the aim of honoring the textbook. Gareth He is president of the Mixed Parliamentary Front in Defense of Public Schools.

The session will aim to highlight the importance and value of textbooks as a teaching resource that plays a crucial role in promoting quality education across the country. The Aprendi Brasil Educação system supports the initiative.

“Our intention is to promote reflection on the importance of textbooks as a valuable instrument for education, regardless of political and regional issues. Through this solemn session, we wish to celebrate the value of the textbook and highlight the commitment of everyone involved in promoting quality education in Brazil”highlights the parliamentarian.

Textbooks are fundamental to the teaching and learning process, especially in remote and disadvantaged regions, where they provide equitable construction of knowledge, enabling teachers and students to fully exercise citizenship, as guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution.

National Textbook Day is celebrated in Brazil on February 27th. Since 1985, the National Textbook Program (PNLD) has been responsible for providing all textbooks to students in public schools across the country.

According to the National Education Fund (FNDE), every year around 150 million textbooks circulate through more than 140 thousand Brazilian schools and reach 40 million students. The Ministry of Education (MEC) invests R$1.9 billion annually in teaching works.

The event is expected to bring together parliamentarians, educators, representatives of educational institutions and others interested in valuing and promoting textbooks as a fundamental tool for the country’s educational development.
