Fearing punishment, Corinthians campaign against homophobia

The next game of Corinthians at Neo Química Arena, for the Brasileirão, on July 29, against Vasco, it will be without the presence of the fans. Because of homophobic chants in the classic against São Paulo, the club was punished by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (SP).

To avoid new punishments that cause, above all, financial losses, the club created a campaign against homophobia and discrimination so that it is not penalized again.

With #FielContra Homofobia, the club has been using its social networks to make its fans aware that the team needs their support to avoid going back to the dock. On Tuesday, the team meets rival São Paulo for the semifinal of the Copa do Brasil.

This Thursday, midfielder Renato Augusto even recorded a message to the fans. “Fala Fiel, we count on your support and encouragement in all games. Say no to homophobic and prejudiced shouts. Corinthians is everyone’s team”, asked the number 8 shirt.

“In order to continue counting on the usual support, we ask all fans to always encourage Timão with the most beautiful songs and anthems that the Brazilian stands have ever created, and that have never had homophobia, racism, hatred or any type of discrimination”, reinforced Corinthians.

Thanks to a suspensive effect, the team could count on the strength of the crowd in the defeat against Red Bull Bragantino in the last home match for the Brasileirão. The justification is that the load of tickets was already sold. Now, against Vasco, he will pay the penalty. Before, however, he still visits Bahia, on Saturday, and receives the same São Paulo for the first leg of the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil. The club does not want to be a repeat offender under the threat of a much tougher penalty.
