O saints announced on Friday the hiring of Argentine striker Julio Furchthe first reinforcement of the current transfer window that had no previous spells at the club.
Before him, left-back Dodô and midfielder Jean Lucas had already been announced, in addition to the signing of a pre-contract with midfielder Diego Pituca. The three have already defended the São Paulo coast team in the past.
Debuting with the alvinegra shirt, Furch is 33 years old and signed a contract valid for two years. He was at Atlas, from Mexico, a club he defended for four seasons and which he left as an idol. In 2021, during a penalty shootout, he converted the charge that gave the title of the Apertura Trophy of the Mexican Championship to Atlas, ending a 70-year fast.
Nicknamed “Emperor” by fans after the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, the Argentine played his last game for the Mexican team on Wednesday. He played just ten minutes and was replaced by Jordy Caicedo to a standing ovation from the crowd as he walked to the bench.
Furch has a long career in Mexico. Before Atlas, he played for Santos Laguna and Veracruz. In Argentina, he wore the shirts of Olimpo, San Lorenzo, Arsenal de Sarandí and Belgrano.
The new reinforcement awaits the publication of his name in the CBF’s Daily Newsletter (BID), which is unlikely to materialize this Friday, so he should not be available for this Sunday’s duel, with Botafogo, at 4 pm, in Vila Belmiro.
Jean Lucas, announced last Sunday, appeared at the BID this Friday morning and is cleared for debut. The tendency is for him to be a starter in the duel with the Botafogo team.
