Presenter Fausto Silva, 73, who underwent a kidney transplant on Monday (26), was 13th on the list for the procedure, according to the São Paulo State Health Department. He met priority requirements for surgery.

“The Transplant Center of the State of São Paulo informs that patient FS was placed on the transplant queue on February 6 and, following state resolutions, underwent a kidney transplant last Monday (26), fulfilling the criteria for prioritization. FS was 13th on the list for the procedure”, informs the note.

In August last year, Faustão had a heart transplant, which gives priority to cases of transplantation of other organs, according to a 2019 state resolution.

“According to State Resolution SS 06 of 2019, the following are prioritization criteria: a) total impossibility of access for dialysis, b) post-transplantation of another organ, c) post-kidney donation. The criteria for classifying potential recipients for kidney transplant purposes are: HLA compatibility (genetic), ABO compatibility (blood), prioritization and age of the donor”, states the State Department of Health.

Other factors that also define the patient as a priority, according to the resolution, are the impossibility of intravenous access for dialysis, a procedure that filters the blood, or cases in which the patient has already been a kidney donor.

The criteria that classify potential recipients of the organ, however, are different. Genetic and blood compatibility is required, in addition to the compatible age of the donor.

The statement also informed that Faustão was added to the queue to receive the kidney on February 6 of this year.

It is worth remembering that everyone waiting for a transplant must have chronic kidney disease that compromises 15% or less of the organ’s capacity. Today, 38,908 people are in line. The state of São Paulo tops the list.
