Family and fans pay tribute to Zagallo at CBF wake

Burial will be at 4pm in a cemetery in the South Zone of Rio

The body of four-time champion Zagallo is being laid to rest this Sunday (7), at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. At the place, where images of Zagallo’s career fill the walls, family members, players and admirers pay tribute and remember important moments in the former coach’s career.

The burial is scheduled for 4pm at the São João Batista cemetery, in Botafogo, in the South Zone of Rio.

Dozens of wreaths were handed out with tributes from football clubs, the Brazilian Olympic Committee, players and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and first lady Janja Lula da Silva.

Zagallo’s body is next to several trophies, cups and murals that tell the history of Brazilian football.

Former player Mauro Silva, the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, the sports commentator Léo Batista, and the president of Fluminense, Mário Bittencourt, were some of those who were at the wake and paid their respects.

Zagallo died at 11:41 pm this Friday (5), due to multiple organ failure, at the age of 92. He had been hospitalized at the Barra D’Or Hospital since the end of last year.
