Exchanges in government are around work in Congress; Lula wants to negotiate terms

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) should leave changes in government for August in order to include more Centrão parties, according to blog sources in Planalto. The president also wants to negotiate the terms of these exchanges well. Lula has been pressured by acronyms from Centrão — an informal bloc in the Chamber that brings together center- and center-right party congressmen — to cede control of organs to allies of the group. In exchange for the changes, the Planalto-allied base in the Chamber would gain strength. Leaders of acronyms aligned with the bloc have demanded, for example, the Ministries of Social Development and Sport, in addition to the management of the Post Office and Caixa Econômica Federal. Lula does not want to empty his women’s ministry. Therefore, he tries to give another folder to deputy Silvio Costa Filho (Republicans-PE) and spare Ana Moser in Sport. On the blog, Lula’s advisers assessed that, for the time being, only the change in the Ministry of Tourism is “mature”. Other changes still depend on the progress of the negotiations. With the return of the congressmen, the expectation in the Planalto is that the negotiations for exchanges in other folders will also advance. The government assesses that the moves should take place to increase governance and expand, in particular, the allied base in the Chamber.
