Windstorm affects operations in the ports of Paranaguá and Santos – 07/13/2023 – Market

The ports of Santos, Paranaguá and Antonina suffered restrictions on operations throughout the day due to the intensity of the winds brought by the passage of an extratropical cyclone through the south of the country, informed the port administrations.

In the Paraná ports of Paranaguá and Antonina, an important exporter of agricultural commodities and importer of fertilizers, operations have been reduced since Wednesday night (12) due to the intensity of the winds.

The ports continue to “operate partially”, due to stops throughout the day, said the port administration of Paranaguá, in a note later this afternoon.

“Since last night [quarta-feira]some activities alternate periods of operation and stops, for the safety of port workers”, he explained.

The port authority in Paraná did not immediately have information about impacts on movements.

In Santos, the biggest Brazilian exporter of soybeans, corn, sugar and coffee, among other products, navigation in the estuary, suspended around 9:00 am, was released by the Port Authority of São Paulo at 2:30 pm, said the press office.

Five vessels that were moored left the port of Santos, after the release.

Ship entries, “still an undetermined number”, were rescheduled for after 7 pm.

“Material damage in the port complex [de Santos] were not significant and ground operations functioned normally throughout the period,” added an official note.

The ports of Paraná also informed that they continue to monitor meteorological conditions, “operating in contingency while the alerts last”.

“According to guidance from the Brazilian Navy, the port authority and other agents maintain a state of alert, as navigation in the region remains restricted,” he added.
