Even with Bolsonaro ineligible, PL wants to elect more than a thousand mayors in 2024

Bolsonaro and other PL politicians have been debating the next steps of the party after confirmation of ineligibility
Brasilia DF) – The ineligibility of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), defined this Friday (30) by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), did not affect the Liberal Party’s plans for the 2024 elections.
Chaired by Valdemar Costa Neto, the party intends to maintain the goal of winning more than a thousand city halls in the next municipal election. In 2020, the acronym elected 345 mayors.
In recent days, Bolsonaro and names linked to the PL have been debating the next steps taken by the party from now on.
Throughout the week, PL leaders told the news portal metropolises that, if ineligibility materialized, Bolsonaro would become the party’s “greatest electoral force”. On social networks, Valdemar highlighted the role of the former president from now on.
“We are going to work double time and show our loyalty to President Bolsonaro. You can believe that today’s injustice will be able to reveal the strongest voter in the nation. And the result of this will be recorded in the 2024 and 2026 elections. More than ever, Brazil needs strength. It’s time to overcome. Bolsonaro is the greatest popular leader since redemocratization and will continue to be”,
he wrote.
The promise to elect a thousand mayors was made in June by Valdemar, and kept even after Bolsonaro’s conviction.
“We must elect a thousand mayors in the 2024 elections with our 99 federal deputies and the 129 state deputies we have. Now, if we join Bolsonaro’s strength, we should elect an average of 1,500 mayors in Brazil. Let’s break the record.”
