With 87.55% of the polls counted, the current Turkish president has 52.93% of the votes
The counting of the presidential elections in Türkiye has already begun. Turks went to the polls this Sunday (28) to choose a new president. At around 12:40 pm, the first results showed Tayyip Erdogan in front, with almost 55% of the votes. The count was just over 66% of the ballot boxes cleared.
Erdogan, who is the country’s current head of state, is contesting this second round with Kemal Kilicdaroglu. The opponent adds up to 45.2% of the votes.
In the first round, Erdogan won 49.5% of the vote against Kilicdaroglu’s 44.9%. For today’s vote, one of the candidates’ strategies was to attract about 8 million voters who did not go to the polls on May 14.
The opposition to Erdogan sees, in this election, the best chance to remove him from power, given that his popularity has been hit by a crisis in the cost of living in the country.
