COMPLAINT

The heated discussion took place after a former deputy criticized Leite for the decision to maintain civic-military schools.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), filed a complaint this Wednesday (29) with the Public Ministry against former federal deputy Jean Wyllys for homophobic statements by the former parliamentarian.

Former deputy Jean Wyllys and Leite fell out on Twitter after the governor rebutted Wyllys’ criticism of the RS government’s decision to maintain civic-military schools and said that “gays with internalized homophobia in general develop libido and fetishes in relation to authoritarianism and uniforms”. The case took place last Friday, July 14.

So far, Lucas Mourão, Jean Wyllys’ lawyer, has stated that he is not aware of the representation. He adds that “there was no official communication about it, which is why it is not possible to comment”, said the lawyer.

Leite used his official profile to hit the former parliamentarian:

“It doesn’t matter if it’s from the right or the left. It doesn’t matter what color flag you carry. What matters is that homophobia, prejudice, discrimination cannot be tolerated. The society that we defend is a society of respect, of tolerance, in which people are judged by their character, their ability, their honesty, not by skin color, not by religious belief, not by sexual orientation. Homophobia, wherever it comes from, prejudice and discrimination, whatever the color of the flag each one holds, cannot be tolerated and that is why I make this representation with the Public Ministry”, said Eduardo Leite in a video posted on Twitter.

The Federal Government announced last Wednesday (12) the closure of the program implemented in 2019, during the management of Jair Bolsonaro. The government of Rio Grande do Sul informed that it intends to maintain the civic-military schools administered by the state under the same regime and with its own resources. RS has its own model of civic-military schools, parallel to the National Program of Civic-Military Schools (Pecim).

In a note, the government of RS says that there will be no changes. “Currently, Rio Grande do Sul has 18 state schools that have joined the program, in all the state has 25 schools that operate in the civic-military regime
