According to Pacheco, the proposal will be voted on “in the coming months”
Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM) will be the rapporteur for the tax reform in the Federal Senate. The information was confirmed this Tuesday (11) by the President of the House, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSDB-MG), after meeting with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and the Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet.
According to Pacheco, there is no reason to slice up the text of the reform to be considered by the Senate. He said he expects to approve the matter “in the coming months”.
Upon leaving the senator’s official residence, Haddad expressed confidence in the approval, later this year, of both the tax reform and the bill that restores the tie-breaking vote in the Administrative Council of Tax Appeals (Carf).
“We are confident that we will approve the matters coming from the Chamber, with the independence that the Senate has, in the sense of perfecting the texts. Very confident that we will enact a tax reform, after so many decades, that is up to the challenges facing Brazil”, said Haddad.
With regard to the CARF project, the minister classified the matter as a “sensitive matter”. “We had important signaling from the President of the Senate, and we are confident that it will be appreciated in August. This will pave the way for Minister Simone Tebet to be able to prepare a budget piece, assuming in it all the commitments expressed by President Lula”, he added.
Haddad highlighted as “Lula’s most important commitments” the maintenance of a minimum level of investment; the recomposition of the constitutional floor of Health and Education; and the target primary result for the coming year.
