Mauro Cid says he did not participate in Bolsonaro’s decisions

The former assistant to the then President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid said this Tuesday (11) that, despite his proximity to the former president, he did not participate in activities related to public administration, nor did he question Bolsonaro about what was discussed in meetings with authorities of the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative powers.

“In practice, the function of the adjutant basically consisted of an executive secretarial service for the former president”, explained Cid at the beginning of his testimony to the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) that investigates the coup attacks on the 8th. January, when vandals invaded and destroyed the Planalto Palace, the National Congress and the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

“In the day-to-day of the former president’s meetings and agendas, we welcomed the participants and directed them to the desired location, staying outside the meeting rooms, always available. We did not question what was dealt with in the respective agendas and meetings”, said the military.

After ensuring that, in 2019, he assumed the leadership of the Order’s Aid of the Presidency of the Republic by indication of the Army Command and that his appointment did not have any political interference, the lieutenant colonel highlighted the fact that, over 27 years of service military, have stood out. Then, Cid listed some of the tasks he was entrusted with during the four years he served former President Bolsonaro.

“Execution of the agenda; reception and referral of people to meetings; answering calls and receiving mail; document printing; receipt and delivery of gifts and assisting in the former president’s private and private activities – lunches, travel, personal finances, etc”, related the military.

The former aide-de-camp has been detained since May 3, accused of having defrauded vaccination cards against covid-19, including those of Bolsonaro and relatives of the former president. He is also named as one of the organizers of a conspiracy to reverse last year’s election result, including plans for an intervention in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). According to investigations by the Federal Police, messages captured with judicial authorization after the seizure of Cid’s cell phone show that he gathered documents to provide legal support for the execution of a coup d’état.

On his cell phone, Federal Police (PF) experts found messages he exchanged with other soldiers and which, according to federal deputies and senators who make up the CPMI on January 8, reinforce the thesis that the group was plotting a coup.

An investigation report produced by the Federal Police records that the messages show Cid gathering documents to provide legal support for the execution of a coup d’état. In them, the military would have shared a document with instructions for declaring a State of Siege in the face of “unconstitutional decisions of the STF”.

By decision of Minister Cármen Lúcia, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), in a request for habeas corpus for the defendant’s defense, Cid was forced to appear before the commission, but he has the right to remain silent in the face of questions that may incriminate him. Right which, right at the beginning of his testimony, he said he would use.

“As far as I am aware, I am investigated by the Judiciary, especially by the STF, in at least eight criminal actions. Among them, the alleged falsification of vaccine cards; the alleged participation and incitement of the acts of January 8 and the alleged fraud in the [tentativa de] withdrawal of gifts received by the former president. For this reason, I will not be able to clarify several other questions that could be asked beyond the factual context [relacionado aos atos golpistas de 8 de janeiro] and, by guidance of my defense and based on the habeas corpus order granted by the STF, I will use my constitutional right to silence”, explained the lieutenant colonel.
