See findings on Mauro Cid, who adopted silence in CPI – 07/11/2023 – Power

Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, who served as Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) main assistant during his term as president, told the January 8 CPI that he was the target of at least eight criminal investigations.

Cid appeared to give testimony this Tuesday (11) and stated, at the beginning of the session, that he would use his right to remain silent.

See some of the investigations in which Mauro Cid was involved.

1) Coup plan

According to a report by the Federal Police, a coup draft of a state of siege decree was found on Mauro Cid’s cell phones, in addition to a kind of feasibility study for the intervention of the Armed Forces to reverse the result of the 2022 elections.

In the material, the PF also identified explicit dialogues about a coup or demonstrations in support of the military. In one of them, held in November and December, Colonel Jean Lawand Junior asks Cid several times to convince Bolsonaro to order the intervention of the Armed Forces. At one point, Cid says he’s in the fight.

Bolsonaro’s defense stated in a note that the dialogues found on Cid’s cell phone reinforce that the former president did not participate in coup-mongering articulations and that the former advisor’s cell phone had become a “simple mailbox” for “the most diverse lamentations “.

2) Vaccination card

Cid has been arrested since May on suspicions surrounding the forgery of his vaccination card, his wife, Bolsonaro’s youngest daughter and the former president himself. In testimony to the PF, he did not answer the questions, and his defense claimed not to have had access to the entire content of the investigation.

Bolsonaro praised the military and told the PF that, if Cid had committed any crime, it would have been in his absence.

3) Saudi jewelry

Cid is also the subject of an investigation by the PF that investigates whether Bolsonaro would have acted to keep jewelry presented by Saudi Arabia and seized at the customs at Guarulhos airport.

Documents and reports confirm that, at the end of December 2022, there was a mobilization in the Presidency in an attempt to release the material, including sending a member of the order help, headed by Cid, to the Guarulhos airport in search of the gifts. Cid would also have prepared a letter sent to the Revenue Service requesting the release of the jewels.

Bolsonaro claimed to have been aware of the jewels seized at the Revenue 14 months after the incident and that, in December 2022, he sought information to avoid an alleged diplomatic embarrassment if the gifts were to be auctioned.

4) Lives on ballot boxes and inquiry into TSE attack

Cid became the target of investigations for alleged involvement in episodes in which Bolsonaro acted to discredit the electronic voting machines, being investigated both by the organization of the live on July 29, 2021 and for allegedly having helped in an alleged leak of a PF inquiry into a hacker attack to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).

The Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, saw no crime in Bolsonaro’s conduct in disclosing the investigation into the TSE.

5) Live on vaccines

Cid is the target of an inquiry into the dissemination of false news by Bolsonaro, regarding the live in which the then president related the vaccine against Covid-19 to the risk of contracting AIDS.

In a final investigation report at the end of 2022, the PF indicted the lieutenant colonel for two crimes, that of attacking public peace and inciting the commission of a crime. According to the PF, Cid maintained the “impossibility of criminalizing the president’s ‘freedom of opinion'”.

6) Transactions

The PF found messages on Cid’s phone that raised suspicions about financial transactions carried out in the office of the then president, as revealed by the Sheet in September last year. In the investigation, the PF pointed out that those investigated made deposits in cash and in fractions, largely using self-service terminals and cash deposits in Cid’s account.

In May of this year, Bolsonaro’s defense denied irregularities and stated that the use of cash to pay expenses for the former president and his family served to cover costs with small suppliers.
