A movement of lawyers called ‘Chapão’ begins to act with the aim of obtaining support to contest the election that will renew the direction of the Brazilian Bar Association in Amapá (OAB-AP), in October or November. The group is led by former directors of the entity: Ulisses Träsel, Alessandro Brito, Sandra Alcântara, Israel da Graça and Jâmison Monteiro.

The OAB-AP is currently chaired by Auriney Brito. For his succession, until now, former presidents Paulo Campelo and Patrícia Almeida have presented themselves as candidates or pre-candidates, as well as Jâmison Monteiro, who now forms part of the new movement, but in advance declaring that he leaves the claim in favor of Sandra Alcantara.

After a meeting that managed to attract 80 participants, this Friday, the 9th, Chapão’s leadership was on the program ‘Togas and Becas’ (Diário FM 90.9) this Saturday morning, when he presented his purposes, adding that there is no personal vanity in the group, only the interest in “rebuilding” the Bar Association in Amapá.

Ulisses Träsel, who was once president of the OAB, informed that he no longer intends to return to the position, but that he accepted an invitation to join the movement due to the situation the Order finds itself in and the desire for change that grips the lawyers’ class.

Alessandro Brito, president of the Instituto dos Advogados for almost 20 years, pointed out on the radio program that Chapão fights for the independence of Amapá’s legal profession, which, according to him, is currently hampered by a lack of initiative from the OAB management. He said he intends to be a candidate for the entity’s Federal Council.

Sandra Alcântara lamented that the current leadership of the Bar Association has removed women from the leading role in the legal profession in Amapá. “Female participation must be respected. Furthermore, we have to look at the OAB for militant lawyers, something that the current administration has left aside”she said, that she intends to run for president.

Jâmison Monteiro, who intends to be president of the OAB-AP, but would renounce his claim in favor of his colleague Sandra Alcântara, said he wants the Order to be more respectable. According to him, the entity has become friends of the management, and that the time is now ripe for a woman to take on the leadership of lawyers, as president.

Israel da Graça defended parity as a priority in the Bar Association, as well as the valorization of activism, especially young lawyers, who feel helpless for not having support from the OAB management. “These people, who are arriving, have to be welcomed, because they need guidance, physical contact from the leaders”, concluded.
