Dino suspends regional social networks of PF and PRF after alleged hacker attack – 06/30/2023 – Politics

The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, determined the suspension of all regional profiles of the PF (Federal Police) and PRF (Federal Highway Police) on social networks.

The ordinance, published this Friday (30) in the Official Gazette of the Union, comes after an alleged hacker attack on the profile of the PRF in Sergipe.

In the early hours of Thursday (29), the institution’s Instagram profile made a publication in which it declared support and asked for donations by Pix to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The government measure was announced the day before by the minister on social media.

“In view of the alleged invasion of the regional PRF profile in Sergipe, including changing the password, I am ordering the suspension of the regional profiles of the PF and PRF for security analysis, with only the national profiles remaining on social networks. As for the removal of the air of the criminal post, the PRF is with measures in progress. And investigation will be initiated to verify the facts”, said Dino.

According to the minister, a police inquiry was opened at the PF and an internal inquiry at the PRF was opened to determine the facts.

The publication made by the Sergipe PRF said that the Sergipe PRF team had decided to “collaborate with the cause” of the former president: “We believe that he still has his Brazilian citizenship and deserves all our support as a homeland”. In the image, a QR Code of a Pix, as well as a donation key.

The post occurred on the same day that Bolsonaro’s trial at the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) was resumed, which can revoke the former chief executive’s political rights until 2030.

It also occurs at a time when Bolsonaro’s allies started asking him for donations via Pix on social media to pay legal expenses, such as fines for not wearing a mask in São Paulo during the Covid-19 pandemic, when use was mandatory.

In a note, the PRF said that the profile was the target of a hacker attack. “After reestablishing control of the account, the PRF informs that it works together with the Federal Police in order to investigate the crime”, says the text.

The ordinance published this Friday determines the suspension of the regional profiles of the PF and PRF on websites and blogs, in addition to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Linkedin and other platforms.

Only national profiles of institutions may remain active, under the management of the social communication coordination of the respective bodies.

In addition, it determines the analysis of “convenience, opportunity and security of such regional profiles”, with the sending of a report with conclusions to the folder within 30 days.
