The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, praised the Federal Police for its role in the plea agreement for lieutenant colonel Mauro Cid, former aide-de-camp to Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

In a post on social media this Saturday (9), Dino stated that the institution complied with the legislation in its work to establish a commitment with the Army officer. The plea was also approved this Saturday.

“My tributes to the Federal Police team that worked to ensure the progress of Mr. Mauro Cid’s award-winning collaboration. The Federal Police acted with seriousness, professionalism and full compliance with the Constitution, laws and jurisprudence of the STF”, wrote the Minister of Justice of the Lula government.

The post was made just over an hour after the news that Federal Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Morais approved the agreement and granted him provisional freedom.

The PF is subordinate to the Ministry of Justice and has autonomy in relation to the government, but members assess that the corporation has had a close relationship with the Palácio do Planalto. The head of the PF is Andrei Rodrigues, who has made a point of maintaining the image of President Lula’s trusted man.

Previously, to journalists, Dino provided news of ongoing investigations, such as at a press conference in July in the case involving the death of councilor Marielle Franco. According to the law, only parties to processes can have access to investigation data.

This Saturday, in a post on a social network, the Attorney General, Augusto Aras, stated that the Attorney General’s Office does not agree with collaboration agreements signed by the PF, as was the case with the one signed by the military.

Aras also stated that the deputy attorney general of the Republic who spoke out in Mauro Cid’s accusation only postulates “that the law be complied with”. The Supreme Court, however, since 2018 has considered that the police have autonomy to sign collaboration agreements.

Mauro Cid had been in prison since May this year accused of having tampered with Bolsonaro and his family’s vaccination card.

Other accusations weigh on the soldier. He is accused of illegally selling jewelry delivered to the Bolsonaro government and of having been involved in the leak of a confidential investigation into a hacker attack on the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), in addition to other crimes.

Government politicians also commented on the approval of Cid’s plea this Saturday. The president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, posted on social media that “in addition to reporting, Mauro Cid also offers a catalog of topics to deliver the ineligible party. Here, we wait.”

In another post, Gleisi commented: “Delation validated! It’s good that the ineligible Jair is preparing to answer for his crimes.”

Representative Jandira Feghali (PC do B -RJ) posted: “the time is coming to confirm what we all know about January 8th: Bolsonaro planned, provided resources and encouraged a coup. He is already ineligible. He remains to be arrested for the entire harm it caused”.

Federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) posted that “the house is falling down!”, an expression also used by Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur.

On social media, Bolsonaro supporters have remained silent regarding the approval of the plea. The focus of the former president’s allies has been Lula’s trip to India and his consequent absence in Rio Grande do Sul to deal with the tragedy that killed at least 41 people due to the passage of an extratropical cyclone.

Lula is in India to participate in the G20 summit. With his trip, the acting president, Geraldo Alckmin, announced on Friday (8) that he will go to Rio Grande do Sul on Sunday (10) to follow the case.

On Instagram, Jair Bolsonaro’s official account published stories about Lula’s absence from the country amid the tragedy. At around 2 pm, a publication was published praising the performance of the former president’s government in the economy, without any reference to the accusation.

The accounts of Michelle and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) have also posted about the tragedy in the South.
