Since the Federal Police’s Tempus Veritatis operation was launched, the public messaging groups analyzed by Palver have presented intense political debate. Between sharing news and comments about the operation, mentions of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) reached, on February 8, the highest level in the last 30 days.

In groups of supporters of the former president, videos and messages began to circulate threatening the Judiciary.

In messages sent in public WhatsApp groups, users challenged minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF) to arrest Bolsonaro.

In one of the messages, accompanied by a video that contains excerpts from a speech by former federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Novo), there is mention of a possible civil war and incitement to violence. Mentions of the term “CIVIL WAR” more than tripled on February 8 compared to previous days.

Since February 8, discussions have remained heated, but without a central theme directing the debate.

From February 12th, a video of the former president calling on his supporters to take part in the event on Avenida Paulista began circulating in groups. Since then, there has been a massive distribution of content on the topic in public messaging groups, and the issue has gained prominence in both opposition groups and groups supporting the former president.

A TikTok video, tagged with the account @renata_patriota, which appeared in the group sample for the first time on February 15, confirmed the presence of former President of the United States Donald Trump and President of Argentina Javier Milei at the event called by Bolsonaro.

Despite a report published by Sheet pointing out the unfeasibility of illustrious presences, similar content intensifies in the following days, always accompanied by a call for the event.

On Sunday, February 18, messages began to be distributed denying the international presence.

The text, aimed at patriots, said that the rumors were created by the left to frustrate the expectations of the former president’s supporters, and that, upon noticing the famous absences, they would have the feeling of Bolsonaro’s discredit.

Last Saturday (24), however, a live broadcast produced on YouTube and shared in groups confirmed that Trump and Milei would be present on Avenida Paulista. Other messages that circulated on the same day included the presence of Elon Musk and Netanyahu among those confirmed.

One of the strategies used in network communication is to use topics that are in evidence to benefit from the popularity of the topic.

In this sense, in the same week that opposition parliamentarians filed a request for impeachment against President Lula (PT) due to the comparison between Israel’s actions in Gaza and the Holocaust, the messages related to the call for the act were adapted to the context .

After Bolsonaro’s initial video asking protesters not to carry banners or posters, there was intense communication about the instructions, including the request to wear green and yellow.

Since the 21st, however, messages have asked protesters to also carry the Israeli flag, as a way of showing support for the Jews. This adaptation, in addition to taking advantage of the theme’s prominence, aimed to create antagonism with Lula, inflating Bolsonaro’s political base.

On Saturday night (24), messages and videos circulated in groups of Bolsonaro supporters pointing out the presence of infiltrators in Paulista.

In the video with a denunciatory tone, the infiltrators would be responsible for placing posters and signs with messages attacking the STF and ministers Alexandre de Moraes and Flávio Dino. The messages also accused the infiltrators of wanting to promote chaos and confusion during the act.

The feeling of fear also prevailed in messages that sought to link the escape of prisoners from the federal penitentiary in Mossoró (RN) with the existence of a larger plan to attack Bolsonaro.

Other users shared information that hundreds of thousands of Army soldiers were on standby to carry out arrests during the act, including that of the former president.

Another fear raised was the possibility of confrontation with organized fans, who would be infiltrated. These fears were assuaged in messages that highlighted that the São Paulo Military Police force had been reinforced to protect the protesters.
