DF Governor refutes Lula’s accusation about “pact” in 8/1

The governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, refuted a statement by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) about the existence of a “pact” to orchestrate the attacks on January 8, in Brasília.

In an interview with the newspaper The globe, Lula accused the existence of a “pact” between former president Jair Bolsonaro, the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, the Federal District Police and the Army Police during the attacks on January 8th. He also associated the alleged pact with the burning of vehicles and the attempted invasion of the Federal Police headquarters during his diploma at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

Ibaneis denied “foundation in facts” and said that Lula’s statements were “empty” to the Broadcast portal, from the Estadão newspaper. He avoided commenting on the accusations because he was on vacation in Miami, and at the end of December he had already announced that he would not participate in the ceremony commemorating January 8th, at the National Congress.

At the time of the attacks on the Three Powers, Ibaneis was in Brasília monitoring the demonstrations and taking the necessary measures, such as the dismissal of the former DF public security secretary, Anderson Torres. One day after the depredation, he was removed from his position as governor by decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

In a statement to the Federal Police, on January 13, the governor said that he was sabotaged by the former secretary of public security in the policing that culminated in the invasion of the headquarters of the Three Powers. He also mentioned that he did not receive the correct reports from intelligence agencies and that the Army “prevented the removal” of the camp set up in front of the General Headquarters.

Messages extracted by the Federal Police from the governor’s cell phone and released a month after the attacks showed that he minimized warnings made by authorities about the possible invasion.

Seven members of the Military Police of the Federal District are preventively detained following complaints from the Attorney General’s Office and investigations.
