Deputy wants to extend taxi driver benefits to app drivers – 04/05/2024 – Panel

Representative Kim Kataguiri (União-SP), pre-candidate for Mayor of São Paulo, presented an amendment to the bill sent by the government to regulate the work of app drivers to extend to them the same advantages that taxi drivers have.

According to the Executive’s proposal, app workers will have the right to INSS (National Social Security Institute), minimum remuneration, limitation of working hours and the possibility of union membership, among other points.

Kataguiri’s amendment, if approved or included in the project, will allow app drivers to travel in bus lanes and other exclusive lanes, like taxi drivers.

It also provides for tax exemption on the acquisition and ownership of a vehicle whenever federal tax legislation grants taxi drivers the benefit, in addition to the exemption from the obligation to rotate vehicles.

In justifying the amendment, the deputy states that technological advances have caused changes in passenger transport.

“To improve the working conditions of app drivers and food delivery people, as well as achieving user satisfaction, it is imperative to equalize the advantages that are guaranteed to taxi drivers, such as the possibility of traveling in exclusive lanes and no need to rotate vehicles” , he states.

Kataguiri also says that the unequal tax treatment between taxi drivers and app workers harms the competitiveness of transport services.
