Deputy takes over City Hall of Borba after mayor was removed on suspicion of corruption

José Pedro Freitas Graça, known as Zé Pedro (PSD), took over as interim mayor of Borba, in the interior of Amazonas, for the next 90 days. On suspicion of corruption, the incumbent Simão Peixoto (PP) was removed from office by the Justiceafter being the target of an operation by the Public Ministry (MPAM).

The ceremony was held on Saturday night (27), at Borba City Council, in a session led by the mayor, Miguel Lima. Simão Peixoto and the first lady, Aldine Mirella de Souza, are considered outlaws.

Profile

Zé Pedro, 46 ​​years old, is from Borba. Businessman in the river transport sector, married, father of three children and two grandchildren. He knows the city, its residents as well as the local demands for having been a councilor twice and president of the City Council.

The sworn-in mayor gave a short and emotional speech. He promised the population of Borba, made up of more than 42,000 inhabitants, that during his mandate he will honor his position every second and minute that God allows him to stay in front of the city hall.

“I will manage Borba with hard work, dedication, honesty and responsibility”, said Zé Pedro.

The city

Borba is a municipality 268 years after its founding and 134 years since its emancipation. The economy is based on the primary sector.

The city has a significant production of fruits such as papaya, passion fruit, orange, banana, avocado and lemon. It also stands out in livestock. The herd of cattle and pigs, as well as the large number of laying hens and honey bees generate employment and income.
