Deputy reacts to attempt to punish discrimination against PEPs – 06/15/2023 – Panel

Congressman Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ) will present a bill so that the regulation on the so-called PEPs (Politically Exposed Persons) will once again be regulated exclusively by the Coaf (Council for the Control of Financial Activities).
The motivation was the approval by the Chamber of a project on Wednesday (14) criminalizing acts of discrimination against parliamentarians. The matter now goes to the Senate.
“The project assigns to Coaf the functions of regulating and standardizing PEPs and not to Parliament, as it is clear that it is a question of legislating for its own sake”, said Alencar.
Since 2016, Coaf has been responsible for preventing money laundering and fighting corruption by PEPs, which include politicians.
The project, by Deputy Dani Cunha (União-RJ), says it supports the maintenance of these control instruments, but defends limits that do not harm everyday activities such as opening and maintaining accounts in financial institutions.
