After a fierce dispute, the state deputy Gil Diniz (PL), author of the request of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) that will investigate in the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp) hormonal treatments for gender transition in children and adolescents at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo Paulo (FMUSP), was elected president of the CPI. Voting for both the position of president and vice president took place on Wednesday (14).
On Monday (12), on his social networks, Diniz published a video with the caption “Understand what is at stake in this CPI on gender transition in children and adolescents and why I need your support to chair the Commission” . In the video, he makes a statement at the Alesp plenary in which he states that “there is a lack of everything in São Paulo, there is a lack of medicine, there is a lack of buses, there is a lack of Public Security, but there is no lack of money for children and adolescents to have a sex change, and we are not going to do that allow it to happen without at least supervising, investigating.”
By tradition, authors of CPIs at Alesp end up being elected as its presidents. As a function, they have the power to choose the order of subjects and votes that will be put on the agenda. Among the effective members of the CPI, there are two deputies from the PL, two from the PT/PCdoB/PV coalition, one from PSDB/Cidadania, one from Republicans, one from União Brasil, one from PSOL/Rede and one from PSC.
