Deputy leader of the government Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, state deputy Guto Zacarias (União Brasil) presented a bill with the proposal to prohibit the use of public funds for LGBTQIA+ events.
In May, the governor announced that he would allocate R$750,000 to finance parades or other affirmation actions for the LGBTQIA+ public. On Sunday (11) the 27th LGBT+ Pride Parade was held on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo.
“These stops are important because they raise awareness so that we have an increasingly tolerant society,” said the governor in May. The financing of events of this type by the government of São Paulo has generated criticism from part of the right-wing electorate to Tarcísio.
Zacarias’ bill says that “the allocation of any type of public funds, either directly or through incentives, by direct or indirect administration, to any type of public meeting that has the objective of: I – defending any type of sexual behavior; II – to claim any type of right related to the sexual behavior of people; III – to enter into any public policy of any sexual behavior”.
