The chairman of the Agriculture and Supply Commission (CAB) of the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap), deputy Júnior Favacho (MDB), again defended that the State Government (GEA) study a new location for the 52nd edition of Expofeira do Amapá, a proposal that was presented by the CAB in the form of a proposal last Monday (8). The parliamentarian explained that the suggestion is based on technical criteria, but also meets the demand of small entrepreneurs and street vendors who aim to earn income on the days of the event.

The document forwarded by the committee proposes that the GEA study the possibility of holding the next edition of Expofeira in the North Zone of Macapá. According to Júnior Favacho, this is a recurring request from the population, mainly from entrepreneurs, shopkeepers and low-income people who find it difficult to travel to the old location, in the Fazendinha exhibition park, and evaluate a move to the Zona North.

“Many micro-entrepreneurs and street vendors are waiting for the Expofeira opportunity to offer products and services on the days of the event, and the North Zone offers better logistics for these people. It was to meet their demand that we made this suggestion. In addition, the North Zone has registered a significant population growth since the last edition of Expofeira, almost ten years ago, and it is necessary to think about the offer of public transport for people who live in this area of the city”, warned.

Favacho also showed concern about another logistical issue: the works to improve the infrastructure of the Josmar Pinto highway. “This region already had problems with trafficability in previous editions of the fair, and this should become even more sensitive if the works on the highway have already started during the event, as planned”. The deputy also recalled that the electricity distribution network that serves the region is collapsed and does not support demand.

Another argument cited by the parliamentarian is that the space used for the Expofair is expected to build the Industrial District of Macapá. This will necessarily make the event need to be held in another location in the future. In view of this, Júnior Favacho defended that Expofeira have a provisional structure, which can be assembled solely for the event, and dismantled at the end, as is the case at the largest agricultural technology fair in Latin America, Agrishow.

“The structure where the Expofeira was previously held only received maintenance during the event and was then no longer used, that is, public money is being wasted on a structure that the state only uses for a few days throughout the year”, stressed the parliamentarian.

According to the deputy, the CAB also took into account rural producers from other municipalities in Amapá, who will need to travel from the interior of the state to the event location. “The Expofeira is a leisure and entertainment option for the public, but we cannot forget that it is held mainly to value the work of rural men and women who work daily to contribute to the development of the state. The commission is committed to supporting these workers,” he said.

New ideas

In addition to suggesting a change in the Expofeira location, CAB presented other proposals to optimize the event. Among them is the creation of a space dedicated to technology and innovation, and another to discuss the role of women in agribusiness and family farming. The commission also suggested sustainable solutions for Expofeira, such as the installation of a photovoltaic energy system and ecopoints for the collection of recyclable materials.
