CCJ votes to create 240 new posts for Military Justice – 05/09/2023 – Panel

The CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) votes this Thursday (11) on PL (Bill of Law) 1,184/2015 to increase by 240 the number of positions for technicians and analysts at the JMU (Military Justice of the Union), and create over 350 rewarded functions.

The text already has a favorable report by Deputy Fernando Francischini (PL-PR). If approved, it goes directly to the Senate.

This is one of the priority agendas in Congress for the president of the STM (Superior Military Court), Joseli Camelo Parente, who claims to have gone to the Senate or Chamber more than ten times in just over a month in office.

Another measure considered a priority is the expansion of powers of the Military Justice to deal with administrative and disciplinary issues of the Armed Forces.

Today, a soldier who considers that he has been unfairly punished or who disagrees with being transferred to another city, for example, resorts to common law, which, according to Joseli, is not always able to consider the particularities of life in the barracks. This prerogative has already been given to the state Military Justice, but not to the STM.

Joseli has already taken the demand to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), who appointed a legislative consultant to talk to the president of the STM. The final text will be handed over to a senator to initiate the procedure.

In the Senate, the president of the STM is still working for the approval of two other projects: an update of the Military Penal Code and the creation of three vacancies for the Military Justice, both reported by Senator Hamilton Mourão (PL-RS).

In the House, the fight is for the update of the Code of Military Criminal Procedure, which has already been urgently approved and is awaiting a date to be voted on in plenary.
