Manaus (AM) – In Red February, the month dedicated to the fight against drugs and alcoholism, the president of the Parliamentary Front for Care and Prevention of Depression, Suicide and Drugs (Fenapred) of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam) and the Commission for Prevention of Depression and Drugs of National Union of Legislators and State Legislatures (Unale), state deputy João Luiz (Republicans) highlights that throughout his mandates in the Legislative House he has implemented public policies to prevent and raise awareness against these vices in society.

“We have worked on behalf of families and made people aware that these addictions only lead to destruction. We always emphasize that prevention is always the best medicine”,

said deputy João Luiz, who highlighted that Tuesday (20) is also the National Day to Combat Drugs and Alcoholism and in Manaus there is the Municipal Week to Prevent and Combat Drugs and Alcoholism.

Last year, Fenapred carried out an action alluding to Red February on the corner of Constantino Nery and Pedro Teixeira avenues, in the Central-South Zone of Manaus, where it took leaflets to drivers, pedestrians in the region and users of public transport.

The parliamentarian also highlighted that, through Fenapred and the Unale Commission, the Symposium: Prevention is a Solution was held in Boa Vista (RR), Santa Cruz do Sul (RS) and Manaus (AM) in recent years. João Luiz took actions and participated in “Enough: Self-injury, Depression and Suicide” in Manaus and municipalities in Amazonas, Venâncio Aires (RS) and Salvador (BA).

The republican, who is also president of the Commission for International Relations, Promotion of Sports and Defense of the Rights of Children and Adolescents of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam) has given lectures in schools in Manaus and in the interior of Amazonas, Centro Socioeducativos do Amazonas and among other places to raise awareness among children and young people about the problems caused by addictions.

The parliamentarian is the author of Law No. 6,750/2024, which provides for mandatory drug prevention mechanisms on an ongoing basis in state primary and secondary schools.
