Deputy Felipe Souza highlights the importance of this law for promoting the health and well-being of the population of Amazonas

Manaus (AM) – Law 6,252, of 06/14/2023, authored by Deputy Felipe Souza (Patriot), was sanctioned, bringing significant benefits to the population of the State of Amazonas. This law aims to facilitate free access to medicines for needy people, through the donation and reuse of medicines in good condition and within the expiry date.

The new legislation authorizes companies, distributors, drugstores and pharmacies in the pharmaceutical segment to donate their unused stocks, as long as the medicines are within their expiration date. This initiative aims to maximize the use of available medicines, benefiting those who need it most.

Deputy Felipe Souza emphasizes the importance of this law for promoting the health and well-being of the population of Amazonas.

“This legislation seeks to guarantee free access to medicines for the most vulnerable people, taking advantage of the potential for donation and reuse of medicines in good condition. In addition, strict screening and distribution criteria ensure that the drugs are directed to those who really need it, following the principles of responsibility and solidarity”,

said the Deputy.

Careful screening of donated drugs will be carried out by pharmaceutical professionals, who will assess the validity and physical integrity of each drug, ensuring that only those suitable for use are made available. It is noteworthy that the donation and distribution of drugs not registered with the National Health Surveillance Agency will be prohibited, ensuring the quality and safety of these products.

The distribution of medicines will be conditioned to the presentation of the National Health Card issued by the Unified Health System (SUS), to the participation as a beneficiary of programs of the Federal Government or of the Government of the State of Amazonas, and to the presentation of the original medical prescription. These measures ensure that medicines are directed to those who really need them, according to established criteria.

Medications with an expired expiration date, violated or disapproved due to technical issues will have an appropriate destination, according to the Solid Health Waste Management Plan and in accordance with current legislation. This measure guarantees the safe disposal of these drugs, avoiding environmental impacts and protecting public health.

With the enactment of this law, the State of Amazonas takes an important step in promoting health and combating inequality, providing access to essential medicines for those who need it most.
