Bolsonarist federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO), who made statements considered racist against Africans, declared himself brown when running for mayor of Goiânia (GO) in 2020 and white when running for the post he currently holds, in 2022.

Sought by the Panel, he said he had no idea who put him “as white, brown or blue in this business” and stated that “normally it is the party that fills”. He even said ironically that he declares himself “moreno jambo” and “verde”.

In 2020, he ran for the DC party, Christian Democracy, and in 2022, for the PL.

The parliamentarian’s statement that has been criticized happened during his participation in the podcast “Três Irmãos”, after the presenter, Rodrigo Arantes, said that there are monkeys with IQ 90 while in Africa the average IQ would be 72.

“Then you will see in Africa: almost all countries there are dictators, almost everything there is dictatorship. Democracy does not prosper in Africa. Why? For you to have democracy you have to have a minimum of cognitive capacity to understand between good and bad. bad, between right and bad,” Gayer responded last week.

He even compared the situation to Brazil. “Brazil is like this. Lula arrived in the presidency and the stupid people are ‘hey, picanha and beer'”, he said.

The deputy has said that his speech was taken out of context and that his argument was that the main problem in Africa is malnutrition, which influences cognitive capacity.

Gayer also told the column that he used absolutely nothing from the election fund.

In 2020, the Superior Electoral Court decided that the distribution of the Special Campaign Financing Fund and free electoral propaganda time should be proportional to the total number of black candidates in the party in the election. The decision only came into effect in the 2022 elections. At the time, the then candidate for governor ACM Neto (União Brasil) suffered wear and tear in his campaign after declaring himself brown.

The Minister of Human Rights and Citizenship, Silvio Almeida, sent a request for action to the Ministry of Justice, Federal Police, Chamber and Attorney General of the Republic against Gayer. The Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, ordered the Attorney General’s Office to study appropriate legal measures. Deputy Duda Salabert (PDT-MG) and other parliamentarians ask for the impeachment of the deputy.
