More than 400 federal deputies signed a request to hold a General Committee in the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies to debate the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents on Marajó Island. The request is headed by federal deputy Zé Trovão (PL-SC).

According to the parliamentarian, three party leaders supported the initiative, guaranteeing the broad support of parliamentarians for the request. Trovão thanked the support of deputies Doutor Luizinho (PP/RJ), representative of the Parliamentary Bloc UNIÃO, PP, Federation PSDB CITIZENSHIP, PDT, AVANTE, SOLIDARIEDADE, PRD; Hugo Mota (Republicanos/PB), from the MDB Parliamentary Bloc, PSD, REPUBLICANS, Podemos; and Altineu (PL/RJ), from PL.

“The leaders’ support culminated in the significant support of more than 400 signatures, vastly exceeding the minimum requirement of 171 signatures in less than 24 hours,” said the author of the request.

New accusations came to light after the repercussion of a song by singer Aymeê entitled “Evangelho de fariseus” which mentions social and environmental problems on the Amazon island. The singer also made the following statement when participating in the program “Dom Reality”: “Marajó is an island a few minutes from Belém, my homeland. And there is a lot of organ trafficking there. That’s normal there. There is hard-level pedophilia.”

The deputy from Santa Catarina highlighted that the focus of the debate “will be on the search for effective and immediate measures to protect vulnerable children and adolescents on Marajó Island and ensure that those responsible for such crimes are held accountable.”

“It is hoped that the debate will result in concrete actions to face this devastating reality, demonstrating parliament’s commitment to combating this social scourge in a determined and effective way,” said Trovão.

The realization of the general commission now depends on the acceptance of the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). Once the request is accepted, a date will be defined and possible debaters will be indicated.
