The statement that “if Uber wants to leave Brazil, that’s Uber’s problem”, made by the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, in a committee of the Chamber of Deputies this Wednesday (4), generated a series of criticisms among deputies federal.

“Unbelievable and unacceptable! Translating: Lula’s ‘labor and employment’ minister shows that he is not worried if almost a million Brazilians lose their source of income overnight”, wrote congresswoman Carla Zambelli (PL-SP).

For deputy Luciano Zucco (Republicanos-RS), “a Minister of Labor who works against labor is a typical excrescence of a government commanded by the party of workers who do not work”. “This union of professional profiteers could only achieve this. If Uber leaves Brazil, the Brazilians will lose!”, wrote Zucco on the X network.

Zucco also mentioned that the minister’s speech “exposes this group’s contempt for workers”. “If Uber leaves Brazil, the app’s workers and consumers will lose, with reduced competition and increased costs. They just don’t lose the PT and the system, as always”, added the deputy.

The Novo party also refuted Minister Marinho’s speech about Uber. According to the party, he “has no idea what makes a country work”.

“Uber spent years making losses, facing heavy regulation. It did this to offer a better service – in exchange for profit. If it were up to the government, everyone would still be paying too much for taxis”, wrote the party.

A People’s Gazette, deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) said that the minister “defends a position that could lead to hundreds of thousands of people in Brazil becoming unemployed”. Gayer also criticized the solution presented by Marinho in wanting to “place the worst and most inefficient state-owned company in our country, Correios, to take Uber’s place”.

“What the Minister calls “capitalist neurosis for capitalist profit” is the fact that free and independent people opt for self-employment to support their families. Many drivers have already stated that they prefer a free work regime to the CLT model, the name for this is freedom. It turns out that this government is unaware of this”, says the deputy from Goiás.
