Deputies must now support the police readjustment bill – 05/16/2023 – Panel

A meeting between Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) and state deputies from the public security bench this Monday (15), at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, eased the tension created by sending the proposal to increase the number of police officers to the Assembly Legislative Assembly of São Paulo at the beginning of the month and forwarded the approval of the text to the next few days.

After the bill was sent, the deputies began to be pressured by their police supporters due to the differences in the proposed increases to the various ranks and to the two police forces. In addition, there was a prediction of an increase in the discount for retirees, later withdrawn.

In addition to the questions of the text, the parliamentarians complained of having been caught off guard.

At this Monday’s meeting (15), according to reports from those present, Tarcísio undertook to improve communication with the deputies and to contemplate in future changes the categories that are considered harmed by the readjustment proposal. He asked that the bill be approved without amendments by the base deputies.

The conversation was considered positive by the deputies, who then decided to cease their opposition to the text.

“The project is good, we tried some adjustments. Unfortunately it is not feasible at the moment, but we have a committed governor who complies with the agreement. I leave with the word that soon we will have more readjustments for the police classes. This is just the first step towards valuing public safety”, says congressman Rafael Saraiva (União Brasil).

Another participant in the meeting, Delegate Olim (PP) says that, in his assessment, Tarcísio gave an earful to the parliamentarians who were not acting as the government’s base.

“Never has a governor given so much attention to the police forces. I was never received by Geraldo Alckmin, for example. He already arrived giving a 14% raise [para delegados da Polícia Civil]. And, from what he said, it will still improve, it will solve the problems that were pending with readjustments in the coming years”, he says.
