Deputies assume office in the House

Next week, on February 1st, seven councilors will take office in Porto Alegre City Hall. With the departure of the parliamentarians who were elected to seats in the Assembly and in the Chamber of Deputies, the then substitutes are preparing to assume a vacancy in the Municipal Legislative. Among them, two return to the chamber: Professor Alex Fraga (PSOL) and Engenheiro Comassetto (PT). The debutants are: Abigail Pereira (PCdoB), Giovani Culau (PCdoB), Marcelo Bernardi (PSDB) and Tiago Albrecht (Novo). There is still a lack of definition about who will assume the PT’s second chair – the dispute is between Marcelo Sgarbossa and Adeli Sell.

With the departure of councilors Daiana Santos and Bruna Rodrigues – who respectively take over as federal and state deputies – Giovani Culau and Abigail Pereira join the PCdoB bench. Culau enters the Chamber carrying a collective mandate, a novelty in the House. According to the future parliamentarian, the group was created with the intention of combating personalism in politics and bringing greater representation to the municipal legislature. “We are going to have a Porto Alegre for everyone, a Porto Alegre turned to the periphery”, he defended.

Abigail Pereira, who has been in previous political disputes, but who will act as a councilor for the first time, said that her main flag will be the fight for public policies for women. According to Abigail, issues such as domestic violence and gender inequality will be part of her cabinet’s discussions. “I want to have a debate around a more inclusive Porto Alegre for women, with a quality public service”, she pointed out.

Already on the PT bench in the Chamber, councilors Leonel Radde and Laura Sito resigned to legislate in the Assembly. To replace them, the name of Engenheiro Comassetto has already been established, but the name that will occupy the second PT chair is not yet defined: the dispute is between Marcelo Sgarbossa, currently in the PV, and Adeli Sell.

Comassetto is returning to the Chamber for his fifth term as councilor. According to the petista, this long experience in municipal politics made him learn the importance of dialogue in the Legislative. He says he has a performance focused on the current urban impasses. “I want to seek a broad view of the city, we need to discuss popular housing, regularize the villages of Porto Alegre”, he defended. “There are a series of discussions that need to be done about the urbanization of the city”, he added.

Who will occupy the chair of Matheus Gomes, elected state deputy, will be Professor Alex Fraga, who also had previous experiences in the municipal legislature for two terms. Fraga highlighted that his main flags to be defended in the House are related to public education and the environment. According to the biology professor at the municipal network, legislating in the Chamber is difficult, since the government base is strong and the future councilor will be in opposition. Despite this, he says he feels hopeful about the new mandate. “I believe I will do a good job, especially around public education and the environment, which have always been my main flags.”

With the departure of Kaká D’Ávila (PSDB) from the House – who will now act in the Assembly – social worker Marcelo Bernardi will take over. The toucan stated that he hopes to dialogue with everyone in the Chamber and that his action will be focused on children and adolescents, especially in the area of ​​mental health. Bernardi stated that he has been carrying this flag since he started working as a tutelary counselor, almost 20 years ago. “The community expects that from me,” he argued.

Who will follow the mandate of Felipe Camozzato (Novo), elected state deputy, will be the communicator Tiago Albrecht. He announced that he will defend the reduction of taxes. Albrecht is also said to be in favor of the privatization of Carris, which, according to him, does not provide a quality service to the population. “Carris and the entire Portoalegrense modal need to be rethought”, he defended. Albrecht believes that public-private partnerships are a very beneficial alternative for Porto Alegre.
