The Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais approved in the first round this Tuesday (4) the project that grants a 258% readjustment in the salary of Governor Romeu Zema (Novo), in addition to granting increases for vice-governor, secretaries and assistant secretaries .
The bill had a favorable vote of 45 state deputies and a contrary vote of another 21. The matter will still be appreciated by the Legislative Assembly in the second round, which should take place next week.
If the project is finally approved, Zema’s salary will rise from R$ 10,500 to R$ 37,589.96. The salaries of the vice-governor will go from R$ 10,250 to R$ 33,830.96, a 230% readjustment.
Secretaries will increase from R$ 10 thousand to R$ 31,238.19 and assistant secretaries from R$ 9,000 to 28,114.37, an increase of, in both cases, 212%.
The text foresees two other increases starting next year. In the case of the governor’s paycheck, if the project is approved, the amount will increase from R$37,589.96 to R$39,717.69 in February 2024 and to R$41,845.49 in February 2025.
The vice-governor, secretaries and assistant secretaries will also have raises in the next two years, if the measure materializes.
The project was presented by the Board of Directors of the Legislative Assembly at the request of the governor. The objective is to adapt the remuneration of the governor, deputy, secretaries and assistant secretaries to recover the losses resulting from the accumulated inflation in the period.
Current salary values have been in effect since January 2007. Accumulated inflation by the IPCA in the period is around 150%.
Ten days ago, the governor took to social networks to defend the readjustments: “For Minas to continue advancing, it is necessary to attract and keep the most competent in the technical staff. There are more than 15 years of freezing the salaries of state secretaries, a situation incompatible with the position” .
Businessman, Governor Zema, in his first campaign for the government of Minas, in 2018, stated that he would give up his salary. Upon taking over, he announced that he would donate the amount to social support institutions.
At the same time that it readjusts the salaries of the governor, deputy and secretaries, the bill also limits the receipt of jetons for this group of servers.
The proposal foresees that they can only be remunerated for the participation of only the administrative or fiscal council of the direct or indirect administration.
The opposition even presented an amendment that proposed the complete prohibition of jetons, but the proposal was rejected in a separate vote.
