Former federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Novo-PR) defended this Wednesday (13) the open vote in the Senate to decide the nomination of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Dino has been questioned by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) since the morning. To occupy the vacancy on the Court, he must be approved by the CCJ and receive the support of at least 41 senators in the plenary. Both votes are secret, so it is not possible to know how the senators voted.

“In 2019, amid several corruption scandals, Renan Calheiros withdrew his candidacy for president of the Senate after senators announced an open vote. Open voting is the only way to prevent Dino in the Supreme Court”, said Dallagnol in the social network. In the election for president of the Senate, in 2019, senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) resigned his candidacy to try, for the fifth time, to command the House.

At the time, in an interview with journalists, Renan explained that, in the second vote, the PSDB could not, due to pressure, open the vote. The senator expected to have four votes among the tucanos, informed the Senate Agency. Dallagnol was head of the Lava Jato task force in Curitiba, before entering politics. Former Lava Jato judge and current senator Sergio Moro (União-PR) avoided putting pressure on Dino during the hearing at the CCJ. The Lula government estimates that Dino will have between 48 and 53 votes in the Senate plenary.
