Delegations from five continents arrive in Amapá for the Startup20 mega event – ​​News of Brazil

Starting on Friday, the 23rd, representatives from countries on five continents will meet in Amapá, one of the most preserved states in Brazil, for the largest innovation, sustainability and technology event in the world: Startup20. The unprecedented international meeting in the country has the support of the state government and continues until Monday, 26th, at Sebrae.

The global initiative had its first edition in India, in 2023, as part of the actions of the Startup 20 Engagement Group, which is part of the G20, an international organization of the world’s largest economies.

To date, 19 delegations have confirmed their presence in Amapá: India, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Canada, Spain, United States, France, Indonesia, Oman, Portugal, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, African Union, Australia, Italy, Japan and South Africa. Among the foreigners are entrepreneurs and public agents.

For the state secretary of science and technology, Edivan Barros, the moment is to share information and show the world the potential of Amapá, with the encouragement of sustainable policies and a privileged geographic location, due to the border between Brazil and France.

“We are sure that both foreign delegations will bring experiences and knowledge to share with us, and representatives from the Amazon, and especially from Amapá, will be able to exchange experiences on science, technology and innovation”, pointed out Barros.

The manager also added that, nowadays, in the face of climate change, cooperation between nations becomes even more necessary.

“We will have debates about a more sustainable world, about financing to encourage the emergence of more innovative startups and solutions for public service”assessed Barros.

Startup20 will also allow foreign delegations to learn about innovative businesses in Amapá, from companies dedicated to improving açaí and ventures creating educational software.

Abstartups will be represented by the president, Ingrid Barth, the CEO, Mariane Takahashi, the vice-president Felipe Matos, the CFO, Fabrício de Paula, the directors of Public Policies, Barbara Furiati, of Special Programs, Cláudia Schulz, and the director of Marketing and Sales, Paulo Buso.

Among the governmental and regional authorities are the governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís; the secretary of science and technology, Edivan Barros; executive secretary of the Ministry of Micro and Small Business Entrepreneurship (MEMP), Renato Ferreira; and the president of Sebrae Amapá, Josiel Alcolumbre. After Amapá, Startup20 will still have an agenda in Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Startup20 in Amapá

Amapá is home to the largest innovation and technology event in the world, Startup20, promoted by the Brazilian Association of Startups (Abstartups) in partnership with the state government and Sebrae. The international event, unprecedented in Brazil, brings together authorities and representatives from several countries to debate innovative alternatives for the planet.

In 2023, during the 52nd Expofeira do Amapá, the state government, which develops public policies to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and the bioeconomy, signed a Letter of Intent that formalized the holding, on Amapá soil, of the meeting that officially opens a series of Startup20 events, which will take place in the country throughout the year.

The global initiative, which had its first edition in India, is part of the actions of the Startup 20 Engagement Group, created by the G20, an organization of the world’s largest economies, which also includes other nations from the European and African Union.
